In 2017 Adam spearheaded an effort to create a blueprint for smart urban development. The goal was to provide scope and definition for using technology and data as accelerators to sustainability outcomes in land development and real estate and infrastructure projects.

After more than a year of workshopping across Australia and New Zealand the Code for Smart Communities was released, articulating five principles for smart urban development and over 30 metrics to guide the planning, design, construction and maintenance of next-generation precincts, masterplanned communities and campuses.

In 2020 this work was extended, to encompass the lessons learned from the response to the COVID-19 pandemic and what was happening to cities in a time of crisis.

Adam stood up 'Bounce Lab' - a private/public think tank where a 'Playbook for Digital Benefit Districts' was created.

So, what is a Digital Benefit District?

They are in response to the challenges experienced by government, the community, and businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, seeking to address shortfalls in traditional urbanism, which is not digitally enabled (for all) and equipped to generate real-time insights on what was happening, or what should happen.

For six months Adam stewarded a group of cities, state agencies, private sector city shapers, technologists, data enthusiasts, and social and economic advocates to define the concept of a Digital Benefit District.

The outcome? A playbook outlining a series of place-based digital and data metrics and solutions to support business growth.
